KABUL, MAR 13 (DNA) — Afghanistan’s Public Health Ministry, in cooperation with international organizations, started a nationwide polio vaccination campaign in the country, Monday.

Over 9.4 million children under the age of five are supposed to be vaccinated against polio in this campaign, according to the Ministry. Bamyan, Daikundi and Ghor and some other regions with polar climate are not included in this campaign, said the Ministry.

In this campaign, vitamin A is also set to children aged six months to five years to increase their immunity against various diseases. Acting Public Health Minister, Dr. Qalandar Ebad said that the Ministry of Public Health is determined to eradicate polio from Afghanistan, adding the recent developments in this regard are promising.

Polio is a viral disease that has no cure and can only be prevented and eradicated by vaccination. Any child who gets this disease will remain paralyzed for the rest of his life. Meanwhile, during this year, no positive cases of polio have been recorded in the country, and last year, only two cases of child paralysis were reported in Paktika and Kanar.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Health has asked all citizens to cooperate with them in this campaign and vaccinate their children on time. — DNA
