ISLAMABAD, NOV 20 (DNA) — The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday extended the stay it had granted in the jail trial of the US cipher case until 11:00 AM tomorrow.
During the hearing of an intra-court appeal filed by former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan against his jail trial in the cipher case, Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb of the IHC summoned the court registrar to the courtroom, and remarked, “We have to ask you two questions: whether it was the high court, which had first written a letter for the appointment of Official Secrets Act judge or was it the law ministry that had initiated the process.”
Secondly, the judge asked, whether the judge brought it to the notice of the IHC that he was going to hold the trial in the jail. The judge gave time to the registrar to give his replies in the case.
Speaking on the occasion, Salman Akram Raja, counsel for the PTI chairman, said that some serious breaches of law were made in the case between August and November. The court also sought the notification for the appointment of a special court judge.
Similarly, it also directed the concerned officials to submit reports on the security concerns. The court then adjourned the hearing of the appeal until tomorrow. — DNA
