Shab-e-Meraj being observed tonight with religious zeal, fervour

ISLAMABAD, FEB 7: The devout believers are joining in profound religious observance and traditional fervour to mark Shab-e-Meraj tonight (Wednesday).

Millions of followers are expected to gather at religious sites nationwide on this special night commemorating the ascension of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) to the highest levels of heaven.

The special prayers are being conducted at the mosques and homes as believers earnestly seek the blessings of the Higher Power.

Adorned mosques become a gathering place for men, who fervently pray for the welfare of the entire nation and the Ummah, seeking the blessings of Allah Almighty.

Simultaneously, women devotees engage in special gatherings at their homes throughout the night, participating in prayers.

Islamic scholars in mosques and Mahafils emphasise the significance of Shab-e-Miraj, also known as the “night of forgiveness.”

This night holds great importance as it marks the Isra and Meraj of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H), during which he was transported from Makkah to Al-Haram-Al-Sharif (Temple Mount) and then ascended to heaven on the celestial creature named al-Buraq.

The term Meraj, derived from the Arabic word Urooj, meaning ‘height’ or ‘ascension,’ is celebrated on the 27th day of Rajab in the Islamic calendar. It was during Meraj that the command for the five daily prayers (Salat) was bestowed upon the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H).

On this miraculous journey, the Prophet (P.B.U.H) encountered Hazrat Adam (A.S), Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S), Hazrat Musa (A.S), Hazrat Isa (A.S), and other Prophets.

The purpose of the ascension was to affirm the elevated status of the last prophet, a position believed by all Muslims to be unattainable by any other human being.

Annually, followers commemorate this blessed night with great significance, offering special prayers, reciting the Quran, and observing fasting.

The event serves as a time for deepening faith, strengthening the connection with Allah, and renewing commitment to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).
