ISLAMABAD, JUL 28: First round of negotiations between the federal government and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders is set to take place today (Sunday), but Jamaat-e-Islami has firmly rejected the government’s request to end the sit-in at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi.
Both sides reached an agreement in principle to hold first round of talks.
On Saturday night, a government committee led by Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, along with Engineer Amir Muqam and Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, engaged with Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, including Vice-Amir Liaquat Baloch. The delegation invited Jamaat-e-Islami for formal negotiations, which have been accepted by Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, who has formed a 4-member committee for the discussions.
Despite the talks, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has reiterated that Jamaat-e-Islami will not compromise on their demands. The sit-in at Liaquat Bagh, which began on Friday, continues with protesters demanding action against inflation, rising electricity prices, and excessive taxes. Hafiz Naeem emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami will maintain their stance and not end the sit-in until all demands are met.
On Friday, the sit-in saw attempts by protesters to reach D-Chowk, leading to the arrest of several activists. The protest remains resolute, with Jamaat-e-Islami committed to its cause until their demands are fully addressed.
