RAWALPINDI, FEB 3: /DNA/ – The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) organized a ceremony to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day, reaffirming support for the people of Kashmir and their struggle for self-determination. The event also featured a documentary on Kashmir’s history and a cultural tableau performed by children dressed in traditional Kashmiri attire, symbolizing the region’s rich heritage and the spirit of its people.
The ceremony commenced with the national anthems of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir, setting a tone of unity and patriotism. In his welcome address, RCCI President Usman Shaukat emphasized the purpose of observing Kashmir Solidarity Day: “It aims to awaken the international community to play its role in the just resolution of the Kashmir issue and to send a strong message to the Kashmiri people that Pakistan’s citizens and business community stand firmly with them. We must become an economic powerhouse so that our voice is heard and respected globally. Group Leader and Former President Sohail Altaf said that Kashmir will be free one day from Indian occupation.
” Addressing the gathering, Sardar Masood Khan highlighted the sacrifices made by the Kashmiri people, stating, “Over 500,000 lives have been lost in the struggle. Our efforts must continue until the world listens and acknowledges our cause.”
Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan reiterated that “Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan.” He also highlighted the plight of Kashmiri political prisoner Dr. Muhammad Qasim Faktoo, incarcerated for 29 years, describing him as the “Mandela of South Asia.” He further spoke on Azad Kashmir’s economic potential, rich in rare minerals, dense forests, tourism prospects, and a significant diaspora contributing globally.
Mishal Malik, addressing the audience, condemned the silence of human rights organizations over the atrocities in Kashmir. She detailed the harsh conditions faced by Kashmiri leaders in Indian jails, subjected to third-degree torture. “The RSS has completely hijacked India. The Modi government seeks the death penalty for my husband, Yasin Malik, who remains imprisoned because he resists their oppressive agenda,” she said.
Abdullah Gul described Pakistan as “a symbol of hope,” while Hurriyat leader Altaf Hussain Wani urged the global community to see beyond Indian propaganda. Ghulam Nabi called for the world to respond to peaceful movements and expose India’s true face behind the facade of democracy.
Group Leader Sohail Altaf, Senior Vice President Khalid Farooq Qazi, Vice President Fahad Barlas, former presidents, executive committee members, women members and a large number of chamber members attended the ceremony.
