ISLAMABAD, Jul 3 (APP/DNA):The PDMA spokesperson on Thursday called on citizens to refrain from unnecessary travel and comply with local safety directives as Punjab and other areas of the country brace for renewed monsoon rains between July 5 and July 10.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia in his message with local news channels starting from July 7, a significant rise in water levels is expected in the major rivers, adding, this increase could potentially lead to challenging flood-like conditions in nearby streams, hill torrents and seasonal nullahs.
He warned that residents in vulnerable areas should remain alert and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities to minimize risks associated with sudden water surges during this period.
There is also a risk of urban flooding in northern and central Punjab due to the expected heavy downpours. This could impact residential and commercial areas, causing disruptions and potential damage, he added.
In response, the PDMA has issued advance warnings to all relevant departments to ensure they are prepared for any emergencies, he added.
The PDMA has instructed WASA, Rescue 1122, and other emergency services to remain on high alert and be ready to respond promptly to any incidents caused by the heavy rains and potential flooding, he concluded.
