Peshawar, JUL 27: In a fresh instance of alleged misappropriation of assets, eighty government vehicles have gone missing from the Livestock Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the audit report for the financial year 2023–24.
The report revealed that over 200 vehicles were procured between 2007 and 2021 under various development schemes. However, during the audit process, no record could be produced for eighty of these vehicles.
Documents show that the missing vehicles remain registered under the name of the Director General Livestock in the Excise Department’s records. Meanwhile, no evidence of their presence in field operations or departmental offices has been found.
The audit report has raised serious concerns regarding transparency within the department. It has recommended stringent measures to trace the missing vehicles and identify those responsible.
The provincial minister for Livestock, Fazal Hakim, confirmed that letters have been issued to the relevant authorities to recover the vehicles. Additionally, an inquiry committee has been formed under the supervision of the secretary livestock to investigate the matter.
