S. Korea, Italy eye deeper trade, technology cooperation

SEOUL, Jan 19 (DNA): South Korean President Lee Jae Myung met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Seoul on Monday to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations and expand cooperation in trade, investments, and high-tech sectors, including artificial intelligence (AI).

The meeting also explored oppurtunities to broaden bilateral cooperation in science, technology and advanced industries, particularly in the fields of aerospace and defense. The two sides further exchanged views on regional and international issues, as well as joint efforts to address shared global challenges, including climate change.

“By combining Italy’s traditional strengths as a scientific powerhouse with the core DNA of the Republic of Korea as a technology leader, the two countries can create significant synergy,” Lee said.

In response, Meloni said that the two countries should identify new areas of cooperation, including critical-mineral supply chains, semiconductors, transportation and infrastructure, among others.
