BEIJING: China has issued a strong condemnation of the killing of Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, describing the act as “unacceptable” amid the ongoing escalation in the Middle East conflict.

In an official statement , China’s Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern over the targeted airstrike that resulted in Larijani’s death, along with several others including his son and close aides.

Beijing emphasized that such actions against senior leadership of sovereign nations violate international norms and exacerbate regional instability.” China strongly condemns the killing of Ali Larijani and other Iranian leaders,” the statement read. “This unacceptable act threatens peace and security in West Asia and must be addressed through dialogue rather than further violence.”

The condemnation comes shortly after Iranian authorities confirmed Larijani’s martyrdom in an Israeli airstrike overnight, marking one of the most significant losses for the Islamic Republic since the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei earlier in the war.

Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin described the incident as a “murder” that cannot be accepted. In a message conveyed through official channels and echoed by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Russia firmly condemned actions targeting the leadership of sovereign and independent Iran, calling it a grave violation.

Putin highlighted Larijani’s role as a “true friend” of Russia and his contributions to the strategic partnership between Moscow and Tehran, extending deepest condolences to Iran’s leadership and the family of the deceased. The killings have intensified calls for restraint from global powers, with both China and Russia urging an immediate de-escalation to prevent a broader conflagration.

The ongoing U.S.-Israeli military operations against Iran, which began in late February, have already claimed numerous high-profile figures and drawn widespread international criticism.
