ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan engaged in a telephone conversation with H.E. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The call underscored the deep fraternal bonds between the two nations. During their warm and cordial discussion, Prime Minister Sharif conveyed heartfelt wishes to President Aliyev and the brotherly people of Azerbaijan. President Aliyev reciprocated these sentiments warmly on behalf of the Azerbaijani people and extended similar greetings to the people of Pakistan.
Both leaders prayed for greater unity within the Muslim Ummah amid global challenges. The two leaders also addressed the ongoing hostilities in Iran and the broader Gulf region, including recent incidents affecting Azerbaijan. Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s strong condemnation of attacks targeting Azerbaijan—referencing the March 5 drone strikes on Nakhchivan that damaged civilian infrastructure such as the international airport and injured civilians—and expressed Pakistan’s full solidarity and unwavering support for the brotherly Azerbaijani people during these difficult times.
Both leaders emphasized the urgent need for immediate de-escalation in the region and advocated for dialogue and diplomacy as the primary means to resolve all outstanding issues peacefully.
