ISLAMABAD, 24 MAY (DNA) — The National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) has trained more than 2,200 madrassah students under the Prime Minister’s Youth Skills Development Programme (PMYSDP).
According to documents available with Wealth Pakistan, a total of 2,480 madrassah students were enrolled in technical and vocational training programmes across different regions of the country, while 2,219 successfully passed after completing their training, said a press release. Punjab recorded the highest number of trainees with 1,315 enrolled students, out of whom 1,255 completed the programme successfully. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stood second with 779 trainees and 610 graduates.
In Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), 325 students participated in the programme and 293 completed their training. Sindh registered 39 trainees, all of whom passed successfully, while Balochistan enrolled 22 students and achieved a 100 per cent completion rate as all participants graduated. The NAVTTC has significantly expanded its training outreach under the PMYSDP during recent years. The highest number of trainees was recorded in fiscal year 2024-25, when 131,417 individuals received technical training under the programme.
In FY2022-23, NAVTTC trained 51,948 individuals, while 37,616 trainees benefited from the programme in FY2023-24. For FY2025-26, the number of trainees so far stands at 76,525, indicating continued progress in vocational education and skills development initiatives. The madrassah training initiative aims to integrate students from religious seminaries into the mainstream economy by providing market-driven technical and vocational education.
The programme focuses on enhancing employment opportunities and promoting self-employment among youth.The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the country’s skilled workforce and address unemployment through industry-oriented training programmes across Pakistan.— DNA
