Islamabad has issued a firm statement denouncing the continued threats posed by the Houthis militia against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping lanes in the Red Sea. The government declared that such actions endanger regional stability, undermine freedom of navigation, and jeopardize the uninterrupted flow of global commerce.
According to the statement, threats against commercial shipping and trading with Saudi Arabia are “unacceptable” and constitute violations of established principles of international law. Pakistan expressed particular concern over reports of threats directed against vessels engaged in lawful trade with the Kingdom, stressing that such acts challenge the rules-based maritime order.
Pakistan reaffirmed that any hostile act against Pakistani-flagged vessels or maritime interests would be regarded as a grave threat to national security and sovereignty. The government emphasized that, consistent with the Charter of the United Nations and international law, Pakistan reserves the right to take all necessary measures—including lawful use of force—in the exercise of self-defence to protect its maritime assets and national interests.
The statement also highlighted Pakistan’s deep concern over attempts to drag Saudi Arabia into the wider Middle East conflict. Islamabad reiterated its unwavering support for the security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and prosperity of the “brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
