ISLAMABAD, Sep 5: President of the Istehkam Pakistan Party (IPP) Abdul Aleem Khan on Saturday welcomed Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal’s views on the creation of new provinces, terming the growing political debate on the issue a positive development.
In a message posted on X, he said new provinces should be created on the basis of administrative needs and public convenience rather than linguistic or cultural considerations.
Abdul Aleem Khan said the issue was not the concern of any single political party but a matter linked to the future of the country and its people.
He urged all political parties to engage in serious and meaningful dialogue on the issue instead of using it for political point-scoring.
He said the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies had already passed resolutions supporting the creation of new provinces, while a rural-urban quota system had been in place in Sindh since 1972.
The IPP president said new administrative units could help address public problems more effectively and improve governance. He added that Pakistan needed to reorganize its administrative structure according to present and future requirements.
He said the IPP had already supported the creation of Hazara province in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and was ready to engage with all political parties and stakeholders on the matter.
Abdul Aleem Khan said differences of opinion were part of democracy, but political forces should work together to take the debate towards a logical conclusion in the larger national interest.
