ISLAMABAD, SEP 15 /DNA/ – The stage is set for the much-awaited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Election 2026-28, as all the eligible voters will exercise their right to vote on Wednesday to elect 28 members of the Chamber’s Executive Committee.
The election generated considerable enthusiasm within Islamabad’s business community, with candidates and their supporters actively reaching out to voters and presenting their programmes and priorities for the Chamber’s future. The keen interest surrounding the contest reflects the importance attached by the business community to effective representation, strong advocacy and a progressive role for ICCI.
A total of 57 candidates are in the running for the Executive Committee seats, comprising 30 candidates from the Associate Members (AM) Class and 27 candidates from the Corporate Members (CM) Class. The voters will elect 14 candidates from each class, who will form the core of the newly elected Executive Committee.
The electoral process will continue with the election of two reserved seats for women entrepreneurs on September 17, 2026, followed by the election of the Chamber’s office-bearers on September 19, 2026. The newly constituted leadership will formally take forward the Chamber’s mandate, while the Annual General Meeting (AGM) is scheduled for September 30, 2026.
Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner Omar Rafiq said that all necessary arrangements for the conduct of the elections had been completed. He expressed confidence that the polling process would be conducted in a free, fair, transparent and peaceful manner, in accordance with the prescribed rules and procedures.
He said that all requisite administrative and logistical arrangements had been put in place to facilitate eligible voters and ensure the smooth conduct of polling. He also called upon all candidates, their supporters and voters to maintain the spirit of democratic competition and extend full cooperation to the election administration.
It is noteworthy that the ICCI election is not merely a contest for seats; it is an important democratic exercise through which the capital’s business community will choose the representatives who will shape the Chamber’s priorities and voice the collective concerns of the business sector. The newly elected leadership will inherit the responsibility of strengthening business advocacy, promoting investment and entrepreneurship, and working with relevant institutions for a more enabling economic environment in Islamabad.
