ISLAMABAD, OCT 27 /DNA/ – Together with fellow European Union ambassadors, the Ambassador of Romania met with Pakistan’s new Foreign Secretary, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, to discuss ways to further strengthen EU–Pakistan political and trade relations.

The meeting focused on enhancing political dialogue, expanding economic cooperation and making full use of the opportunities provided by the EU’s Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+). The participants exchanged views on shared priorities and explored avenues for closer cooperation between Pakistan and the European Union.

The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary Ayesha Ali, Ishtiak Ahmed Akil, Director General Europe I, and other senior diplomats.

During the meeting, the Ambassador of Romania underscored Romania’s readiness to deepen bilateral political relations and economic cooperation with Pakistan. Particular emphasis was placed on operationalising the agreement between the ports of Constanța and Karachi, which has the potential to strengthen trade links, connectivity and commercial exchanges between the two countries.

“Building stronger partnerships through dialogue, trade and connectivity is the way forward,” the Ambassador said.

Romania remains committed to supporting closer EU–Pakistan engagement and to developing practical initiatives that contribute to stronger political, economic and people-to-people ties.
