BISP supports over 10 million families, helps KP women obtain CNICs: Rubina Khalid

HYDERABAD, Nov 08 (DNA):Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid, has said that more than 10 million families, comprising approximately 60 million people, across the country are benefiting from the program, emphasizing that the financial assistance is not charity but a government initiative aimed at supporting poor and deserving people in overcoming their financial difficulties. She expressed these views while talking to the media at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office during her one-day visit to Badin.

Senator Rubina Khalid said that BISP was being implemented in a highly transparent manner in line with the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, adding that the program was also monitored at the government level to ensure accountability and transparency.

Without naming any political or other organizations, she said that some groups collected donations without having proper audit systems or other established procedures.

She described the National Identity Card as a gift from Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to the people of Pakistan. She added that in the past, many women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa did not have CNICs, but BISP had encouraged a large number of women to obtain identity cards and register for the program.

The BISP chairperson said the government was also planning to introduce various skills-development initiatives for women so they could acquire professional skills, become more empowered and contribute to the country’s development.

She revealed that approximately 12 million children were benefiting from the Benazir Kafalat Program, while around 2.2 million women were receiving support through the Benazir Nashonuma Program.

Senator Rubina Khalid reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining complete transparency in BISP and ensuring that deserving families, particularly women, could benefit fully from its financial assistance and welfare initiatives.

On the occasion, Members of the Provincial Assembly Haji Taj Muhammad Mallah, Mir Allah Bux Talpur, Arbab Amanullah, Tanzila Umm-e-Habiba Qambrani and Bibi Yasmin Shah were present.

Additional Deputy Commissioner-I Kashif Raza Mangi, Zonal Director (Central Zone) Karachi and In-charge District Director BISP Badin Abdul Qadeer Mahesar and District Information Officer Sarfaraz Samoon also attended the meeting along with other political and social leaders and relevant government officials.
