CMU renews nationwide campaign to promote HIV awareness

ISLAMABAD, Nov 08 (DNA): The Common Management Unit (CMU), under the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, has renewed its nationwide efforts to strengthen HIV awareness, prevention, testing, and treatment by reviving its landmark campaign.

The initiative is being carried out in coordination with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pakistan and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), with the support of national and international health partners.

Originally launched in 2022, the campaign aims to encourage open and informed discussions about HIV, improve access to prevention and treatment services, and address the stigma and discrimination faced by people living with the virus.

The renewed initiative focuses on raising public awareness, promoting HIV testing and early diagnosis, improving access to treatment and highlighting the experiences and voices of people affected by the disease.

The World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Association of People Living with HIV-Pakistan are among the key partners supporting efforts to strengthen the national HIV response.

The CMU acknowledged the continued commitment of government institutions, development partners, community organisations and UN agencies in advancing HIV awareness and prevention across the country.

It emphasized that collective action, accessible healthcare services and a stigma-free environment were essential to ensuring an effective and inclusive response to HIV in Pakistan.
