LAHORE, SEP 06 (DNA) – University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore (UET) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bio-Medical Equipment Resource Center (BERC) of Primary & Secondary Healthcare Department Punjab (P&SHD) to facilitate the hands-on training of undergraduate students of Biomedical Engineering Department New Campus.
Under the MOU, the BERC will train the students on medical equipment through mutual collaboration. For this purpose, the public hospitals under the administrative control of P&SHD, the medical equipment repair workshop of Lahore and Labs of Bio-Medical Engineering Department (UET) will be used.
Moreover, under joint supervision from academia and industry, the BERC would provide knowledge of bio-medical equipment installed in public sector hospitals with real time challenges of functionality along with hands-on training on installation, repair, maintenance, and calibration of medical equipment to undergraduate students of UET Lahore.
The UET Lahore, on its part, will provide the technical human resource and solutions to real time socio-economic challenges in the field of Bio-medical engineering with reference to public sector hospitals.
UET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Chairman Department of Bio-medical Engineering, UET New Campus Dr Abdul Rauf Anwar, BERC Project Director Rao Atif Raza and Director, BERC Muhammad Shahbaz Yasin signed the MOU on behalf of their respective organizations.
On the occasion, both dignitaries acknowledged that there was a significant gap between academia and industry, particularly regarding healthcare sector.They also reiterated their resolve that this gap would be bridged through strong and persistent collaboration with Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran, Omer Farooq Alvi, Syed Inayat Miran, Syed Shabeeb ur Rehman and Muhammad Ali were present during the ceremony. = DNA
