MULTAN – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former member national assembly (MNA) Amir Dogar and several other party workers were arrested in Multan on Wednesday.
Police carried out a raid at Amir Dogar’s guest house in Multan and arrested the PTI leader for chaos the workers created outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) during the submission of nomination papers. A brawl also erupted between the workers of PTI and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Mr Dogar was arrested along with more than a dozen party workers.
The scuffle started when PML-N’s Sheikh Tariq Rasheed and PTI’s Amir Dogar were going to file the nomination papers along with their workers for the NA-155 by-elections.
Workers from both parties pelted each other with stones and threw flower pots towards each other. After the clash, the police arrested Sheikh Tariq Rasheed and Malik Anwar from Nishtar Hospital.
Condemnations over Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader Amir Dogar’s arrest poured in from the party leadership. PTI secretary general and former federal minister Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry strongly condemned the former lawmaker’s arrest.
Fawad Chaudhry said the “Jail Bharo Movement” had started with the arrest of Amir Dogar.
