As dengue intensifies, so do govt efforts

PESHAWAR: With the rising intensity of dengue cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, monitoring efforts have been intensified.

During the past week, under the province-wide dengue surveillance, the Health Department inspected 219,501 houses, finding dengue larvae in 379 of them. Following this, the department has initiated additional measures to eliminate the larvae.

According to the department’s report, lady health workers (LHWs) and community health workers (CHWs) visited these homes to take effective steps using mechanical methods to destroy mosquito breeding sites.

Director of Vector-Borne Diseases, Dr Fazal Rahman, reported that health teams inspected 1,141,955 water storage units and tanks inside homes. Additionally, they examined 39,253 outdoor breeding sites, of which 413 were confirmed positive for larvae.

These sites were dealt with using both mechanical and chemical methods with the help of malaria supervisors and relevant departments, and the breeding sites were destroyed.
