CJP Isa addresses full-court reference held in his honour at Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD, OCT 25 (DNA):As Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa retires today (Friday), a full court reference was held to honour the outgoing top judge at the Supreme Court.

CJP Isa’s wife Sarina Isa and other family members attended the farewell session.

Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan, senior lawyer Farooq H Naek and Justice Yahya Afridi, who is set to replace CJP Isa after he relinquishes the charge, praised the outgoing justice in their opening remarks.

While addressing the session, CJP Isa said that his life changed overnight after assuming Balochistan chief justice post.

“I took the job at a time when there was no judge in Balochistan,” the chief justice said.

In his address on the occasion, the chief justice-designate, Justice Afridi lavished praise on his to-be predecessor, saying that he found CJP Isa to be “one of the best human beings” and got to learn loads of things from him.

“Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa will be missed in the Supreme Court. We have different feelings in saying goodbye to the chief justice,” said Justice Yahya.

He said CJ Isa was a large-hearted person and he always kept his colleagues ready for everything.

He said he disagreed with CJP Isa multiple times but the latter always listened to him “with an open heart”. He also paid tribute to the chief justice’s family a tribute.

Justice Yahya said it was necessary for the nation to ensure the devolution of powers and supremacy of law. He said the district judiciary of remote areas should be given immediate attention.

The senior judge said his first priority would be the district judiciary of the far-flung areas.
