EU delegation visits Islamabad Airport

ISLAMABAD, 30 APR (DNA) —    A senior European Union (EU) delegation visited Islamabad International Airport to review immigration operations and border control mechanisms being implemented by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

An official told DNA on Thursday that the delegation was led by Peteris Ustubs, Director (Asia Pacific), Directorate General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), and included EU Ambassador to Pakistan Raimundas Karoblis along with officials from EUD, FRONTEX and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).

He said the delegation was received by Deputy Director Immigration Maham Khan, who briefed the visitors on FIA Immigration’s arrival and departure operations, functioning of the second line of border control and procedures for dignified handling of returnees.

The delegation later met Chief Executive Officer Islamabad International Airport Syed Aftab Gillani, who gave a comprehensive overview of overall airport operations.  The visiting delegation appreciated the measures taken by the Government of Pakistan and FIA to curb irregular migration while ensuring smooth travel for bona fide passengers.— DNA
