The Honorary Consulate of Romania in Peshawar has provided financial assistance to support families who lost loved ones in the tragic collapse at the Al-Khair Education Center in Peshawar on Thursday, 15 October 2026. At least 34 schoolchildren and a female teacher lost their lives when the school’s roof collapsed during morning classes.
Mr Abbas Pervaiz, General Manager, presented the assistance to the Administrator of Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, on behalf of the Honorary Consulate of Romania and Honorary Consul Massood Ahmad Qazi. The contribution was entrusted to the hospital administration to support the bereaved families at this time of profound grief.
Dr Dan Stoenescu, Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, expressed his deep sorrow:
“The loss of so many young lives is heartbreaking. Children who left home for school, carrying their books and their hopes for the future, will never return to their families. We also mourn the teacher who lost her life alongside her pupils.
“On behalf of the Embassy of Romania, I extend our deepest condolences to the parents, families and loved ones of all those who have died. Our thoughts are also with the injured, and we wish them a full recovery. No words can ease the pain of losing a child, but we hope that the families will find strength in the care and solidarity of those around them. Romania stands with the people of Peshawar in mourning this devastating loss.”
Honorary Consul of Romania in Peshawar, Mr Massood Ahmad Qazi, said:
“This tragedy has brought immense sorrow to our community. No financial contribution can compensate for the loss of a loved one. This assistance is a modest expression of our compassion and our wish to help families facing an unimaginable ordeal. We pray for those who have lost their lives, for the recovery of the injured, and for strength and comfort for every bereaved family.”
The Embassy of Romania and the Honorary Consulate in Peshawar also expressed their appreciation to the rescue workers, doctors, nurses and hospital staff who responded to the tragedy and cared for the injured.
At this painful time, they reaffirm their solidarity with the affected families and the people of Peshawar, with the heartfelt hope that no community will have to endure such suffering again.
