ISLAMABAD, APR 11 /DNA/ – Nasir Mansoor Qureshi, President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), has reiterated the Chamber’s full support for the government’s efforts to resolve the US-imposed tariffs issue amicably and prudently. He called upon all chambers of commerce, trade bodies, and exporters to stand united in safeguarding Pakistan’s trade interests and advocating for the country’s rightful position in the global trade ecosystem.
In a statement issued on Friday, he emphasized the interconnected nature of international trade and cautioned that abrupt shifts in trade policies by global economic powers can significantly impact the economic stability of smaller nations. “Given that the United States is Pakistan’s largest trading partner, it is imperative that this matter be approached with utmost care, prudence, and strategic foresight,” he remarked.
The ICCI President appreciated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his timely and proactive leadership in forming a Steering Committee and a Working Group to assess the impact of the US tariffs and to devise an effective national response. “This initiative is both timely and commendable. A well-coordinated and informed approach is essential to protect our national economic interests,” he added.
He further underscored that trade continues to be a vital engine for development and prosperity for all stakeholders involved. Expressing optimism about a peaceful resolution, President Qureshi welcomed the government’s decision to dispatch a high-level delegation—comprising renowned business leaders and exporters—to the United States. The delegation will aim to strengthen trade relations and seek reconsideration of the newly imposed tariff.
He reaffirmed ICCI’s commitment to supporting all constructive measures taken by the government and urged collective action from Pakistan’s business community to navigate this critical challenge.=DNA
