People who live near airports are used to the sounds of planes taking off and landing. But a new study has revealed that all these sounds could be harmful to their health, UPI reported.
According to researchers, folks who are exposed to high aircraft noise levels are at a greater risk of poor heart function, increased risk of heart attack, stroke and irregular heartbeat.
The results published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology reveal that these people had 10% to 20% worse heart structure and function as compared to those who moved to get away from the noise.
People will closer houses to airports had stiffer and thicker heart muscle with their organ becoming less efficient at pumping blood, said the researchers.
They said that these kind of changes to the heart can quadruple a person’s risk of heart attack or stroke.
“Our findings add to a growing body of evidence that aircraft noise can adversely affect heart health and our health more generally,” Dr Gaby Captur, a senior clinical lecturer at the University College London Institute of Cardiovascular Science, said.
People listening to loud noises constantly from a nearby airport might have a cumulative effect on the health, suspected the researchers.
