ISLAMABAD, MAY 27 (DNA) — National Electrical Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an amount of Rs. 4.82 on account of Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for K Electric. The new charges will be applicable on the bills of June 2022 only.
A public hearing on KE’s request was held on 27th April in accordance with NEPRA’s rules and regulations. KE’s request was made on the back of rising costs of furnace oil and RLNG which increased by 10% and 40% respectively during the period of December 2021 to March 2022. Alongside this, cost of energy purchased from CPPA-G also increased by 9% during the period.
Fuel Charge Adjustment (FCA) are incurred by utilities due to global variation in fuel prices used to generate electricity and change in generation mix. These costs are passed through to the consumers following NEPRA’s scrutiny and approval. Consumers also receive a benefit when the cost of fuel decreases.
K-Electric (KE) is a public listed company incorporated in Pakistan in 1913 as KESC. Privatized in 2005 KE is the only vertically integrated utility in Pakistan supplying electricity within a 6500 km2 territory including Karachi and its adjoining areas.
The majority shares (66.4%) of the company are listed in the PSX owned by KES Power, a consortium of investors including Aljomaih Power Limited of Saudi Arabia, National Industries Group (Holding), Kuwait, and the Infrastructure and Growth Capital Fund (IGCF).
