Pakistan High Commission Ottawa observes Kashmir Black Day

OTTAWA, OCT 28 /DNA/ – The High Commission of Pakistan in Ottawa, along with the Consulates General in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, organized solemn events today to observe Kashmir Black Day, expressing solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in their struggle for the inalienable right to self-determination.

The commemorative event at the High Commission featured a documentary screening, a photographic exhibition, and remarks by human rights supporters highlighting the Kashmir dispute and the ongoing oppression faced by civilians in IIOJK at the hands of Indian occupation forces.

Special messages from the President, the Prime Minister, and the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister of Pakistan were read out during the event. The messages conveyed the Government of Pakistan’s unwavering diplomatic, political, and moral support for the people of IIOJK until they achieve their right to self-determination, as enshrined in relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Addressing the participants, High Commissioner Muhammad Saleem emphasized that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains one of the longest-standing unresolved issues on the UN Security Council agenda. He urged the international community, along with human rights and civil society organizations, to condemn human rights violations in IIOJK and to contribute to a just and peaceful resolution of the dispute.

Kashmir Black Day is observed annually to denounce India’s illegal occupation of the disputed territory since October 27, 1947, which occurred against the will and aspirations of the people of IIOJK. Today’s event reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm resolve to continue highlighting the Kashmir dispute and to express unflinching solidarity with the people of IIOJK until their legitimate aspirations for self-determination are fulfilled.
