ISLAMABAD, AUG 10: The Government of Pakistan issued on Saturday a commemorative stamp on the occasion of Independence Day, celebrating Arshad Nadeem’s historic achievement at the Paris Olympics.
The special stamp, titled “Determination and Stability,” pays tribute to Nadeem’s exceptional contribution to the nation and highlights the enduring struggle for Pakistan’s independence.
The stamp features a striking image of Nadeem in mid-throw during the men’s javelin event, set against a dark green background. It also incorporates the Minaret of Pakistan, symbolizing the nation’s historical and symbolic significance.
Arshad Nadeem, who secured Pakistan’s first-ever individual gold medal at the Olympics, achieved this milestone by surpassing the defending champion, Neeraj Chopra, in the men’s javelin event.
Nadeem’s throw of 92.97 meters not only clinched the gold but also set a new Olympic record, exceeding the previous mark by more than 2.5 meters.
Before Nadeem’s victory, Pakistan had not secured an individual gold medal at the Olympics. The country’s previous gold medals were won in 1960, 1968, and 1984, with individual medals coming from wrestling in 1960 and boxing in 1988. Pakistan had not won any Olympic medals since the 1992 Barcelona Games.
In a statement to the media, Nadeem expressed his elation, saying, “It was my day. I believe I could have thrown even further.” The 27-year-old athlete is set to return to Pakistan via Istanbul, with his arrival in Lahore scheduled for Sunday night.
