Pakistan launches pioneering Journal to strengthen science diplomacy & global collaboration

ISLAMABAD, MAR 16 (APP): In a landmark initiative to bridge the gap between science, diplomacy, and policy-making, the OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), in collaboration with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), launched the inaugural issue of the Journal of Science Communication and Diplomacy at a high-profile event held at COMSTECH Headquarters, Islamabad.

The event brought together key dignitaries, including Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General COMSTECH; Ambassador Tahir Hussain Andrabi, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; along with ambassadors, high commissioners, policymakers, and leading scientists from OIC member states.

In his keynote address, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary underscored the journal’s role as a transformative platform that will facilitate research collaboration, knowledge exchange, and evidence-based policymaking on a global scale.

He lauded the efforts of the Science Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in fostering synergies between scientific research and diplomatic engagement.

The chief guest Ambassador Tahir Hussain Andrabi emphasized the growing importance of science diplomacy in tackling pressing global challenges, including climate change, pandemics, and technological disruptions.

He highlighted that the journal would serve as a critical resource in shaping international policies through scientific research and strategic diplomacy.

Editor-in-Chief Prof. Dr. Syed Javaid Khurshid, Consultant for Science Communication at COMSTECH, introduced the journal’s vision, emphasizing its focus on publishing high-quality research articles, case studies, and trend analyses.

The journal aims to enhance the role of science in international relations, offering a dedicated forum for policymakers, researchers, and communication experts.

Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary extended an open invitation to researchers, experts, and journalists to contribute their scholarly work to the journal, reinforcing the collective mission of leveraging science for global progress and diplomacy.

The launch of the Journal of Science Communication and Diplomacy marks a significant step forward in integrating scientific discourse with international cooperation, reaffirming Pakistan’s leadership in promoting science-led diplomacy on the global stage.
