Pakistan pacers keep Bangladesh under pressure in second Test

DHAKA, MAY 16: Pakistan took three more wickets in the second session after an earlier triple strike by the pacers, keeping Bangladesh under pressure on the opening day of the second Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

At Tea, the home side were relatively well-placed at 168-6, with Litton Das and bowling all-rounder Taijul Islam unbeaten on 42 and 11, respectively.

Bangladesh had a disastrous start to the second session as their captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (29), veteran Mushfiqur Rahim (23) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (four) were dismissed in the span of just 36 deliveries and consequently slipped to 116/6.

Following the middle-order collapse, Islam joined forces with Das, and the duo batted sensibly to knit an unbeaten 52-run partnership for the seventh wicket, which kept Bangladesh afloat.

For Pakistan, pacers Mohammad Abbas and Khurram Shahzad have taken three wickets each thus far.

In the morning session, Pakistan got off to a dream start as Muhammad Abbas removed opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy in the very first over for a duck, leaving Bangladesh 0-1.

Tanzid Hasan (26) was then joined by Mominul Haque, and the pair stitched together a 44-run partnership for the second wicket before Abbas dismissed Tanzid.

Khurram Shahzad then removed Mominul (22), leaving the home side 63-3 in the 16th over.

Pakistan made three changes to the playing XI, as star batter Babar Azam returns to the side after recovering from an injury in place of Imam-ul-Haq.

Pacer Shaheen Afridi and spinner Noman Ali have been replaced by Khurram Shahzad and Sajid Ali.

The hosts are leading the series, which is part of the ICC World Test Championship, 1-0 after winning the first game by 104 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Chasing 268 for victory, Pakistan were bowled out for 163, giving the home side a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series.
