RAMALLAH: The State of Palestine sent an urgent letter to the High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Conventions, to assume their responsibilities and pursue concrete measures aimed at enforcing the Convention and previous Declarations;

The State of Palestine requested that the High  Contracting Parties convene an urgent Conference to determine whether Israel’s gross violations of international humanitarian law have transformed this occupation into an illegal regime necessitating even further action by the international community;

The State of Palestine calls on all High Contracting Parties to intensify their efforts, in line with their legal obligations under the Fourth Geneva Convention, to undertake serious legal, political, and diplomatic  measures to ensure Israel’s compliance with international law as a necessary for a regional and international stability;

Israel, the occupying Power, must fully and effectively respect the Fourth Geneva Convention in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and  investigate and bring to justice all those responsible for all serious violations of international humanitarian law;

International law, including humanitarian and human rights law, cannot be selectively applied when it comes to the Palestinian people, who continue to unjustly suffer under Israel’s nearly five decade-long military occupation;

The Palestinian people must be accorded the same rights and protections, guaranteed by international law, that are accorded to all other peoples.
