Palestine health minister calls for premature, wounded infants in Gaza hospital to be transferred to West Bank

GAZA, NOV 18: Hundreds flee but over 100 patients remain after Israel orders Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital evacuated; Israel tells Gazans to flee southern city Khan Younis.

Palestinian Minister of Health Mai Al-Kaila has called on international institutions to intervene and transfer premature and wounded babies from Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital to hospitals in the occupied West Bank or Egypt, Al Jazeera reports.

Al-Kaila said Israeli authorities are wreaking havoc in Al-Shifa and have turned the hospital complex into military barracks, as they work to evacuate those inside at gunpoint.

“There is no hospital in the Gaza Strip that has the capacity to accommodate the wounded and premature babies,” the minister said.

Jordan minister doubts Israel can wipe out Hamas
Jordan’s foreign minister Ayman Safadi said he did not understand how Israel’s goal of obliterating the Palestinian group Hamas it is fighting in Gaza could be achieved, Reuters reports.

“Israel says it wants to wipe out Hamas. There’s a lot of military people here, I just don’t understand how this objective can be realized,” he said.

He warned Jordan would do “whatever it takes to stop” the displacement of Palestinians, amid heavy Israeli bombardment of Gaza since Oct 7.

“This war is not taking us anywhere but towards more conflict, more suffering and the threat of expanding into regional wars,” Safadi said.
