Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday directed the establishment of necessary committees for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy tournament, scheduled to take place in February 2025.
This directive was issued during a high-level meeting at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, where key preparations for the international event were reviewed.
During the meeting, PCB officials engaged in detailed discussions concerning the Champions Trophy, alongside an update on the ongoing Champions One Day Cup being held in Faisalabad.
The agenda also included an assessment of the stadium upgradation project, critical for enhancing the viewing experience for fans.
Naqvi stressed the urgency of forming the required committees, emphasizing that clear responsibilities should be assigned to ensure a swift commencement of operations. “With some of the world’s top teams set to compete, our arrangements must be flawless,” he remarked.
Highlighting the need for expedited work on stadium renovations, Naqvi noted, “All efforts should be made to ensure the upgrades are completed within the stipulated time. Once the renovations are done, the spectators will enjoy the matches even more.”
The PCB chief also commended the enthusiastic turnout of fans during the Champions Cup matches in Faisalabad, suggesting the potential for hosting Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in the city.
The meeting included PCB officials such as Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer and Chief Financial Officer Javed Murtaza, along with all PCB directors and other relevant stakeholders.
In an upcoming engagement, Naqvi is expected to meet the newly-appointed ICC Chairman Jay Shah in October during the final match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, set to take place in Dubai.
Meanwhile, the PCB is awaiting final approval for the Champions Trophy schedule to finalize logistical arrangements. In a recent meeting with ICC officials, the PCB requested an expedited announcement of the schedule to facilitate smooth preparations.
Sources indicated that provisional bookings have been made based on the proposed schedule, with an official announcement expected by the end of October.
