ISLAMABAD, AUG 25 (DNA) — As the dollar rate has galloped a record high, hovering above Rs300, the tea-loving Pakistanis are feeling the pangs of high inflation as the price of their favorite commodity is literally going through the roof.
Within a week, the price of loose and packed tea has risen up to Rs100 per kg. Pakistani people love sipping tea while having breakfast in the morning or chatting in the evening. But it seems they need to find an alternative now because the price of tea has become so high that they are finding it hard to afford it.
Tea leaves are imported from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania to cater to the tea consumption needs in the country. As the rate of dollar edges up, prices of the imported commodities naturally go up.
During a week, the price of loose and companies’ packed tea has increased up to Rs100 per kg. The price of loose tea has reached Rs1,600/kg while 900 gram packed tea price has soared to Rs1,750.
Citizens, hard hit by the sky-rocketing inflation, have expressed their anger over the high price of tea, complaining that everything they need is getting out of their reach.
If the importers are given facilities, the import policy is relaxed and the rate of dollar is rationalized in the money market, it will be possible for citizens to obtain the imported items at affordable prices. — DNA
