ABU DHABI: FEB 28 (DNA):Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s Envoy to the UAE, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Markhand, a Pakistani scientist, for winning the prestigious Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation in the “Influential Figure” category.
The winners of the 17th edition were announced by Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Secretary General of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, during a press conference held at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi on February 27, 2025. The Award, held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister, recognized outstanding contributions in date palm cultivation and agricultural innovation. The Award, organized by Erth Zayed Philanthropies, saw participation from 187 candidates across 28 countries, reflecting its global significance.
Ambassador Tirmizi praised the UAE’s leadership in promoting agricultural innovation and fostering international collaboration, emphasizing the strong bilateral ties between Pakistan and the UAE. He also commended the Award’s efforts in addressing global challenges such as climate change, food security, and sustainable development, while celebrating pioneers like Dr. Markhand who are shaping a greener future.
