U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, Ms. Natalie A. Baker, Visits Headquarters of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL)

ISLAMABAD, OCT 28 (DNA): Ms. Natalie A. Baker, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Pakistan, visited the headquarters of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) in Islamabad today. She was warmly received by the Bank’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tahir Yaqoob Bhatti.

Mr. Tahir Yaqoob Bhatti provided Ms. Baker with a detailed briefing on the Bank’s vision, operations, and strategic initiatives aimed at promoting agricultural and rural development in Pakistan. During the meeting, the President/CEO highlighted that ZTBL has been a leading specialized financial institution serving the country’s agricultural sector for the past seven decades. He further explained that the Bank operates a vast network of 501 branches, over 90% of which are located in rural, underdeveloped, and unbanked areas, promoting financial inclusion and literacy.

The President/CEO also presented Ms. Baker with a video documentary showcasing the Bank’s key initiatives and achievements. These include innovative programs such as Zarai Baithaks and mobile van services, which deliver banking and advisory services directly to farmers. He also briefed the distinguished guest on the Bank’s collaboration with educational and research institutions aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and promoting modern agricultural technologies.

The meeting also discussed the Bank’s ongoing digital transformation, including the introduction of internet, WhatsApp, and mobile banking services, to facilitate easier loan repayments, settlements, and access to information for farmers. Mr. Bhatti further explained that ZTBL is onboarding various agricultural service providers to enhance the provision of quality inputs and services to small farmers.

Ms. Natalie A. Baker appreciated ZTBL’s role in supporting small farmers and strengthening Pakistan’s agricultural economy. She also noted that several U.S. businesses are investing and working in Pakistan’s agriculture and food sectors. Both sides exchanged views on food security and the challenges facing the agricultural sector.

The U.S. Chargé d’Affaires reaffirmed America’s commitment to continuing support for efforts to make Pakistan’s agricultural sector stronger and more sustainable. On this occasion, Mr. Tahir Yaqoob Bhatti also expressed ZTBL’s readiness to collaborate fully on joint initiatives to improve productivity, promote financial inclusion, and ensure long-term food security.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to explore new avenues of cooperation in the future, aimed at enhancing the welfare of Pakistan’s farmers, promoting U.S. investment opportunities, and advancing the overall growth of the agricultural economy.
