Belarus President visits Krasnopolye

KRASNOPOLYE DISTRICT, Apr 14: Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko is on a working trip to Krasnopolye District, Mogilev Oblast, BelTA has learned.

The president will review the fish farming industry’s performance over the past year and its five-year development prospects, including measures to boost production of valuable fish species.

The Poluzh fish farm in Krasnopolye District specializes in rainbow trout farming. The project was added to the president’s “One District, One Project” initiative and secured state backing under a decree for developing the southeastern part of Mogilev Oblast. The enterprise now serves as the flagship for two similar sites in neighboring Khotimsk District and Cherikov District, which by 2028 are expected to produce, via a closed-cycle system, up to 2,000 tonnes of premium red fish annually along with 15 million fertilized eggs.

Aleksandr Lukashenko will also hear a report on the implementation of the socioeconomic development program for the southeastern part of Mogilev Oblast, which covers the period up to 2025. The program was adopted under a 2015 decree and aimed to promote the sustainable development of seven districts: Klimovichy District, Kostyukovichy District, Krasnopolye District, Krichev District, Slavgorod District, Khotimsk District and Cherikov District.

In 2020, the president extended the decree’s core provisions for an additional five years. These provisions offered various benefits and preferences designed to spur investment activity, enable investment projects, retain workforce, and improve physical infrastructure of agricultural and construction organizations.

According to the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee, some Br3.2 billion in fixed capital investments were directed to the region’s economy and social sphere over the program’s lifespan. Key investment projects realized during this period include a cement-bonded particle board plant in Krichev District, a pig-breeding complex and a pig-breeding facility in Slavgorod District and Klimovichy District, rainbow trout farms in Krasnopolye District and Khotimsk District, and a facility producing fertilized rainbow trout eggs in Cherikov District.

A proposal is now on the table to extend the program for 2026-2030.
