ISLAMABAD, Aug 18: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Imran Nadeem Shigri on Tuesday discussed the prevailing political situation in the country, regional developments, the newly elected Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, and key issues confronting the region.
During a meeting, Gilani congratulated the Speaker on his election as Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly and expressed his best wishes to him and all newly elected members of the assembly.
The Senate chairman said the people of Gilgit-Baltistan had reposed their trust in the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
He said the PPP believed in public service, democratic values and politics focused on the welfare and well-being of the people.
He expressed confidence that all possible measures would be taken to meet the expectations of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Gilani assured him that every possible support would be extended for the development, prosperity and welfare of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
He said the Senate, as an effective constitutional forum, played an important role in strengthening coordination, harmony and cooperation among all federating units. It would continue to play its due role in promoting the development of Gilgit-Baltistan and addressing the issues faced by its people, he added.
During the meeting, the speaker apprised the Senate chairman of the challenges confronting Gilgit-Baltistan.
Gilani assured the speaker that all possible cooperation would be extended to address the issues faced by the region, accelerate its development and improve the well-being of its people.
