ISLAMABAD, SEP 16 /DNA/ – The National University of Modern Languages (NUML) organized a seminar to commemorate Defence and Martyrs Day, highlighting the sacrifices of Pakistan’s forces and emphasizing the role of national unity and the younger generation in the country’s progress and development.
Distinguished Urdu poet, writer, literary critic and educationist Professor Jalil Aali and Dr. Arshad Mehmood Nashad, Head of the Urdu Department, Allama Iqbal Open University, were the guest speakers. Rector NUML Maj Gen Shahid Mehmood Kayani, HI(M) (Retd), DG NUML, Brig Muhammad Rafiq Khan along with Deans, Directors, faculty members and a large number of students, attended the seminar.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Dr. Arshad Mehmood Nashad said that Pakistan is the outcome of a long struggle and countless sacrifices rendered by our forefathers. He acknowledged that the nation faces various challenges, but expressed confidence that through unity, perseverance, adherence to the values and legacy of our forefathers, and with the blessings of Almighty Allah, Pakistan would overcome these challenges. He stressed the need to preserve the country’s national identity, remember its heroes and safeguard its cultural and historical heritage.
Professor Jalil Aali, in his address, highlighted the significance of Pakistan’s historic journey and the sacrifices that shaped the nation. He emphasized that the youth constitute the most dynamic and vital segment of society and have a central role in determining the country’s future. He called upon young people to remain connected with their national identity, uphold the values of unity, responsibility and patriotism, and contribute positively to society through knowledge, character and constructive action.
Rector NUML Maj Gen Shahid Mehmood Kayani, HI(M) (Retd), underscored the pivotal role of youth in the development and progress of any country. He said that while there may be challenges and legitimate concerns, the spirit of sacrifice and devotion to the motherland would never be shaken. Addressing the students, he said that they were the future of Pakistan and carried the responsibility of playing their role in the country’s progress and development. He expressed confidence that, with the will and blessings of Almighty Allah, Pakistan would continue to endure and prosper, and urged the youth not to lose hope or give in to despair.
A documentary showcasing the sacrifices and services of Pakistan’s forces was also screened during the seminar, paying tribute to the martyrs and reinforcing the message of courage, resilience, patriotism and national unity.
At the conclusion of the seminar, souvenirs were presented to the distinguished guest speakers as a token of appreciation, followed by a group photograph.
