ISLAMABAD, JULY 27 /DNA/ – COMSTECH signed memorandum of understanding with the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), desiring to enhance mutual collaboration as well as cultural, scientific and operational interaction that may lead to significant improvements of the activities of both institutions.
Both institutions have agreed to establish a general framework for cooperation in science, education and technology, to facilitate and strengthen collaboration in the fields of common interest such as emerging technologies, advanced genomics, biotechnology and life sciences.
COMSTECH and ICGEB will cooperate to develop joint fellowship schemes, grants schemes, and encourage the exchange of scientific and technical information, visits, and participation by students and scientists of their member states in scientific conferences and seminars organized in the fields of common interest.
Any project, programme and activity developed by both parties shall be of high scientific standard and beneficial to the advancement of science and technology and be relevant for establishment of contacts and networks between scientific organizations, institutions, scientists, researchers, and experts from the respective member states.
ICGEB is an intergovernmental organization to provide the international community with a centre of excellence for research, training and technology transfer in the field of genetic engineering and biotechnology, supporting its member states in the progress towards the achievement of the 2030 sustainable development agenda.
COMSTECH is the ministerial standing committee on scientific and technological cooperation of OIC. The president of Pakistan is the Chairman of COMSTECH. The Core mandate of COMSTECH is to strengthen cooperation among OIC member states in science and technology, and enhance their capabilities, implement OIC resolutions and draw up programmes to increase the capability of the OIC member states in science and technology.=DNA
