Algerian President Tebboune Wins Re-Election by Landslide

ALGIERS, SEPT 9: Incumbent President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has been declared the winner of the presidential election, securing a second five-year term.

The National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE) reported that of 5.63 million recorded voters, 5.32 million voted for independent candidate Tebboune, giving him 94.65% of the vote. Tebboune was widely expected to win, competing against moderate Islamist Abdelaali Hassani, who garnered 3.17% of the vote, and socialist candidate Youcef Aouchiche, 41, who received 2.16%.

The 2019 presidential election saw a significant boycott, resulting in a low turnout that cast doubt on the legitimacy of Tebboune’s initial victory.
