ISLAMABAD, 14 SEP (DNA) — A delegation of diplomats from the British High Commission visited the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS), Islamabad, for wide-ranging consultations on Pakistan’s foreign policy and neighbourhood diplomacy. The delegation was briefed on recent developments in Pakistan’s relations with its neighbouring countries, particularly Afghanistan.
It was conveyed that Pakistan seeks friendly and peaceful relations with all its neighbours, including India and Afghanistan, and expects reciprocal positive responses to its peaceful aspirations for the region. With regard to Afghanistan, Pakistan’s principal concern remains the use of Afghan soil for terrorist activities against Pakistan. Addressing this concern to Pakistan’s satisfaction could significantly improve bilateral relations and open avenues for greater regional trade, connectivity and economic cooperation.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of peace and stability in Afghanistan and its constructive relations with neighbouring countries for realizing the region’s considerable potential for trade and connectivity. Integration of Afghanistan into regional initiatives, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and projects such as the Trans-Afghan Railway, could create significant economic opportunities for Afghanistan and contribute to improved livelihoods.
The interaction underscored the importance of international partners in facilitating dialogue, building bridges among countries in the region, and promoting greater economic cooperation and connectivity for the benefit of the wider region. — DNA
