ISLAMABAD, JUN 6 /DNA/ – A player of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, Shajjar Abbas has won a Gold Medal in the 2nd Imam Reza International Athletics Cup held in Iran.
Mr. Abbas is currently studying in University of Central Punjab, Lahore and is a record holder in University Games held on December 6, 2021 under the auspices of HEC. He has also been selected for Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, UK and Islamic Solidarity Championship in Konya, Turkey.
HEC/Pakistan University Sports Board acts as a nursery to facilitate university students to take part in 35 men and 25 women intervarsity championships every year with an aim to hunt talented youth from the universities, provide them with opportunities to get training, and compete in national and international championships to win laurels for the country.
By organising intervarsity championships, HEC foresees promoting extracurricular activities, sportsmanship, team-building skills, and fair play.
Recently, HEC initiated two projects to provide young players with unprecedented opportunities of demonstrating their talent in selected sports events and participating in provincial, national and international competitions. The student players are the advocates of a healthy lifestyle and peaceful society characterised by tolerance, inclusivity, and unity.=DNA
