Mujahid: Afghanistan needs good relations with Pakistan

KABUL, MAR 10: The Islamic Emirate said maintaining relations between Kabul and Islamabad is a necessity and stated its desire to improve relations with all neighboring countries, including Pakistan.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, urged the new Pakistani government to show flexibility regarding the deportation of Afghan refugees.

“First, the Islamic Emirate has always sought good relations with all its neighbors, including Pakistan, where a new government has emerged. Afghanistan also needs good relations with Pakistan. We want Pakistan to make good progress in various sectors with Afghanistan and ask the future government to solve all its problems,” he said.

The spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate also called for Pakistan’s attention to various issues, including expanding relations, addressing challenges faced by Afghan traders, and matters related to the Durand Line.

“Regarding migrants, we ask them to be flexible. They have hosted migrants for many years, and from now on, they should consider Afghanistan’s relations with Pakistan until the migrants return,” Zabihullah Mujahid said.

This comes as a coalition government recently formed in Pakistan, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari.

However, the question remains whether the new government in Pakistan will resolve the existing problems between the two countries.

“The new Pakistani government is weak; therefore, its foreign policy will mostly be under military supervision, and the Pakistani security forces believe that accusing Afghanistan of being a terrorism hub is in their interest,” said Waheed Faqiri, a political analyst.

“The new Pakistani government is expected not to forcibly expel Afghan refugees and to regard trade between the two countries as important,” Tariq Farhadi, another political analyst, told TOLOnews.

In nearly six months of governance in Pakistan, the interim government has deported more than 800,000 Afghan refugees since early November, a decision that has always been referred to by officials of the Islamic Emirate as a pressure tool on the caretaker government in Afghanistan.
