PPP opposes govt's decision to shut down Utility Stores

ISLAMABAD, AUG 27: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Shazia Marri on Tuesday opposed the government’s decision to shut down the Utility Stores across the country.

According to details, expressing her thoughts, Marri said: “Shutting down the Utility Stores across the country is deplorable. There is no other institution to provide relief on the essential items.”

She rued: “Taking the move to shut down the Utility Stores amid the ballooning inflation across the country is unfair.”

Acknowledging former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s decision to roll out the Utility Stores across the country, the PPP stalwart said: “It was Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who established the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) in the country, fifty years back.”

“If the government wants to serve the masses, then it should withdraw the decision on the Utility Stores across the country,” she said.

Few days back, the Awami National Party (ANP) on Saturday denounced the incumbent government’s decision to shut down the Utility Stores across the country.

Expressing his thoughts, ANP President Aimal Wali Khan took a swipe at the government, saying, “We denounce the decision of shutting down the utility stores.” The federal government is putting the poor segment of society to the test despite addressing the poverty.”

“The thousands of people are getting their bread and butter through the Utility Stores. Those who are offering Bangladesh aid are not thinking about their own people,” he said.

Khan stated: “The temporary decisions like this cannot put the country’s economy back on track.”.

“The right-sizing committee needs to work with seriousness,” he said.

Khan said: “The ANP will not allow anybody to let the masses face hardships despite ballooning inflation.”.
