Indian officials investigate failed assassination plot against Sikh leader

New Delhi, OCT 16: Indian authorities have travelled to the United States to investigate a failed assassination plot against Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu.

This incident highlights the increasingly aggressive stance of the current Indian government, which appears to promote extremist Hindutva ideologies that extend their reach to Sikh communities abroad.

Sikh leaders now express concern for their safety not only in India but also in countries like Canada and the U.S. Reports indicate that India has violated international laws by carrying out extrajudicial killings of several Sikh leaders.

Recently, an international report revealed that Canada ordered the Indian ambassador and diplomatic staff to leave the country after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau presented evidence linking the Indian secret service to the killings of Sikh leaders, including Harpreet Singh Nijjar.

Following this, the U.S. government also provided evidence that implicated an Indian official in the plot against Pannu. According to the U.S. State Department, a man named Nikhil Gupta was recruited by an Indian government official to carry out the assassination in New York. Gupta was promised immunity from criminal charges in India if he succeeded.

The establishment of an investigative committee underscores the involvement of Indian officials in this scheme, reflecting the turmoil in India as minorities face increasing insecurity. India’s extremist tactics are jeopardizing its diplomatic relations with allied nations, raising calls for accountability from international law enforcement agencies.
