ISLAMABAD, OCT 1 (DNA) : The Pakistan Embassy in Beijing hosted a ceremony to mark Defence and Martyrs Day, continuing the annual tradition observed by Pakistani missions worldwide. The event, held at the beginning of September, drew a diverse crowd of senior Chinese civil and military officials, members of the diplomatic corps, defense attachés, media representatives, and members of the Pakistani community in China.
Air Marshal Jia Zhgang, Deputy Commander of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (Air Force), attended as the guest of honor. The ceremony commenced with the playing of Pakistan’s national anthem, followed by a minute of silence to pay homage to the martyrs.
In his address, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalid Hashmi, emphasized the significance of Defence Day and praised the resolve, bravery, and sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces. He highlighted the ongoing economic, political, and defense cooperation between Pakistan and China.
Ambassador Hashmi underscored the crucial role of Pakistan’s military in ensuring national security and prosperity. He referred to the martyrs and veterans as national assets, crediting the country’s independence to their enduring sacrifices.
The event served as a platform to commemorate the Pakistan military’s response to the attack by their traditional adversary on September 6, 1965. It also reinforced the strong bilateral ties between Pakistan and China, reflecting the diplomatic and military alliances cultivated by both nations.
